Well now I'm trying to find out more about this approach of using a resident permit in another EU country (Holland)as a non EU citizen to get an extended stay visa in Italy.
As I mentioned in my other thread, I'm an American on a one year guest teacher visa in Holland until January, but they've offered to sponsor me for the resident permit after that. So I'm looking into the possibility of taking a 6 month sabbatical in Italy at that point if it's possible to get a visa under these circumstances.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
thanks -Tollak

Hello Tollak,

I am not familiar with the problem of getting a visa since I am Italian and I have always been and never thought of leaving, but I did a little search and found this site, you might want to consult it and eventually ask them specific questions through their email address.

If you need help with Italian language feel free to ask.

Ciao

I found this article:

I don't know if it applies to your situation but it might help.

the post is dated december 3, 2003, but it looks like there haven't been changes since then.

Hey Dora,
How very kind of you to post those links.
I will check them out, ooh yes, a very good test for my language skills, and I might just take you up on your offer of help.
How would I do that by the way?
Ad ogni modo, spero che stia bene e ti ringrazio molto.
