Can anyone tell me of preferable online resources where I can get a really good monthly rate on an apartment in Florence?

Your best bet is to deal with an agency that does not cater to foreigners. Theer are quite a few agencies in Florence but they are all way overpriced IMO. Check out SoloAffitti to get an idea of the going rate. Don't be shocked though, Florence is one of the more expensive cities to live in.
