It depends on your Comune. Or, the Comune you own the property to better say. Ciao, Chiara

We bought our house last summer but it won't be habitable until late this year. I have a note in my file that says I don't start paying ICI until we occupy the house. Is this true? Or should I be paying ICI now?

Hello, I am in the process of sorting out ICI on my place in Liguria. I have followed your guidance and threads and am pleased to say I now have good understanding. The only question I have relates to the Importo Acconto. I played around with various figures in the www.dossier.net site to understand the calculations and notice that if you change the `Destrazione' the individual figures change but the total remains the same.I assume that it is the total that has to be paid. So what is the Importa Acconta. Anyone help? I am new to the site - congratulations on a great site Simon

Shoreham-by-Sea, England? Simonnj I don't believe it! That's my home town. Went to school at Victoria Road School and I lived last in Western Road off Brunswick Road and my son in Connaught Avenue! Small world eh? So you're down in Liguria - a holiday place or 'permanent'? Carole B.

Hi Simon, if you are paying in two payments (june 30/Dec. 20) then the first payment is on account (Importa Acconta) while the second who be a saldo which is the final payment. If you pay in one payment for the year, you would only pay the saldo. Basically, the two payments will equal the full one time payment. You cannot change the detrazione as that is what the comune has stipulated. Cristina Please fill out an Interview HEREBecome a Premium Member and help keep the site going!

Thanks Christina, I have finally engaged brain and understood. I was thinking I had to pay the amount shown under destrazione and the Importa. I now realise that the Destrazione is shown on the documents for information and that it is only the sum shown in the Importa Acconto that I have to pay. Regards Simon

It is in the section where you can pay bolletini HEREAs for when to pay, it is due on the 30th of June and if paying in two payments, the second payment is due on the 20th of December. Past those dates and a late fee wil be due. Cristina Please fill out an Interview HEREBecome a Premium Member and help keep the site going!

It is http://www.expatsinitaly.com/how/ici.htmlBTW, the reason the old link did not work is that the extentions of the address changed from htm to html. If you run into a missing page on the site, add an l to the end of it and see if that works. Also, all pages on the main site are listed on the main site index (in the menu bar at the top of the page) so pages can also be looked up there. Hi Chris and susanne We saw thread regarding ICI, did you ever get an answer re ICI and if you have to pay it only when the house is habitable! we have had so many conflicting replies from people. We actually went to our commune and were told they are only doing 2005 at the moment!!!!. Thanks Brian & Carole

My commune told me I will be billed for the first two years of ICI that I didn't pay when the house was being renovated and uninhabitable. It's a property tax and if you own the property....

I'm guessing you mean comune not commune. Hard to picture you down on the farm with your comrades growing 'industrial hemp'.

Yes, I was told by my architect that it needed to be paid even if it wasn't habitable. If you're nice to them, they may not make you pay penalties. We have a very pleasant woman who sits in her office just waiting for people to come in so she can figure their ICI out for them now that they no longer send out the bills. Your comune may have a similar person, so there may be no need to pay an accountant to work it out for you.

The first time I paid, I had some sanzione etc so I had CISL figure it out- cost 10 euro. Since then I do it myself and pay online at Bancaposte.

You know me too well. Yep, it's me, but they call me La Principessa over there and my sister bought me a shirt that says, "Stuff being the princess, I want to be queen." I'm actually about to go do manual labor in my garden at the moment, but I just had a talk with a friend at the bar about who to hire to do housework for me. There's a young Braziliana in town.... The real me:

Hi Aisling, If you can't find it, sure, send it but first (as I have dialup so attachments are my enemy) on the page, it should say rendita followed possibly not dire4ctly but close ebough by a number, ether Lit. xxxxxx or €xxxxxx depending on when you purchased. It is not a lareg number either (mine is less than 600 euro I think) so you are not looking for a purchase price number.
