Sorry to hear that you are also leaving Italy. I guess I'm a bit greedy in saying this as I really enjoy reading about cycling in Italy and about all of the bike manufactures. Good luck coming back to the land of gas not as cheap as when you left, but still half the price of what you pay in Italy.

I too wish you all the very, very best for life back in the US and if you were leaving a bit later I'd have bought some of your stuff but sadly I won't be there till the end of the year.

May I pick your brain a bit before you go? Can you recommend a bike shop in Desenzano/Brescia/Verona? I want a half decent mountain bike when I get there and I don't have a clue where to start looking.

Regards
Maggie

Maggie,

For mountain biking the first place I would recommend is the Paola Pezzo Olympic Bike Center in Bardolino. Really, how can you not buy a mountain bike from the 2 time mtb Olympic gold medalist? The address is Via G. Marconi, 60 - 37011 Bardolino (VR), it's right on the road that goes up the east side of the lake. They have just opened a 2ns store at Peschiera at Via Bell'Italia, 31 - 37010 Peschiera del Garda (VR). Bardolino would be the main store.
website: www.paolapezzo.com Call and go when she is there (Bardolino). She can probably also give you several mtb maps ane such, lots of trails in that area.

In Verona: The Chesini bike shop is very good, it's in the historic center of Verona. They sell german made mtbs and TREK. Located at via San paolo, 8 Verona (near Ponte Navi). Ask for Paolo.

Also in the historic center is BIKE EVOLUTION. The latter spcializes in mtbs, sponsors a mtb club, and sells FOCUS brand bikes. FOCUS is a german company that has some big name riders using their bikes. Located at via Rigaste San Zeno, 39/b; around the corner from the Castelvecchio.

For cycing Italy is the best, and Verona province has a HUGE cycling culture. You can read about my road cycling adventures at: www.italiancyclingjournal.blogspot.com. And if you search on some of the names above you can find photos and stories.

Good luck.

Here's hoping you keep the blog online after you go back, Stelvio. It's one of my favorite blogs.

Thanks Alyson, Gil, Bill 2.

I think I'll keep my blog going, for all my friends here in Italy. Funny, I started it for all my friends in the USA.

Thank you, Stelviorider! I would never have thought of looking in Bardolino and obviously I don't know Peschiera as well as I thought! This is all great info and I will look into it in October (moving in January).

Thank you again!
Maggie
