I agree with Gil - you'll find loads to read if you go over old threads. If you're here for 2-3 months that's not such a long time, so you should just enjoy the Italian way of life, including food!

Culture shock? Italy is not all that strange really (compared to, say, Japan). Much of what you will find is up there with the stereotypes. Yes, Italians live for food, talk loudly with their hands, drive like crazy, and dress well. They can also be hopelessly disorganised, scamming, and completely lacking in English skills. The shock shouldn't be too bad, but you should make every attempt to do as the Romans do to get the most out of the experience. This includes learning some of the language and eating as the locals eat. Anyway, what food could you possibly not live without?
