Hi members, I am a keen English angler living here now in Milan, Italy. I am wondering if there are any members here who regularly fish here in Italy and are looking for fishing buddies to accompany the. I am currently designing www.anglinginitaly.com, if anyone has any helpful advice for the site, any water info etc it would be greatly recieved.

I live in Cernobbio, love to have a fishing buddy. BTW sonce I'm new here - what kind of fish are there in Lake Como. I have seen from the plaza large perch looking fish.

We have a fishing club on base. I don't know if they get a discount, but I heard the fees weren't too bad. You can email them for info: http://tabassb.com/index.htm
It's funny because I don't find any "angling" done down here in Puglia. When a friend asked me to go fishing he meant snorkeling with a spear gun! sure there are lots of people by the sea with rods but I'm told they are just getting out of the house and out of the way of their wife. From what I've seen of their catches, I think that's true!! I'm from the midwest where I would chase Bass for fun and crappie for eatin', but I don't see that type of fishing "in these parts...." I'll have to check out that site.

He who is of a calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition youth and age are equally a burden Plato
Best buy a few local fishing magazines, to get a bit of a feel for things. There is a web site I found once and I'll try to find it again.
Here in the Valle d'Aosta you'll see signs saying 'Pesca Sportiva'. It isn't. Basically it means small, heavily stocked put-and-take lakes full of Rainbow trout (and occasionally fario) and it's not what I call 'sport fishing'. The main river seems similar, and I have yet to see any small fry in the margins: it seems to be entirely artificial stock. I'm not sure what the mountain lakes are like, but the settings are superb.
I remember years ago seeing some barbel type swims at Peschiera at the base of Lago di Garda: wonderfully clear and fast flowing water, and the locals said there was 'barbo commune' there. You'd probably find chub (cavedano)as well, as the rivers reach the plains.
You're probably aware that Italian match fishing can be pretty competitive (or at least it used to be), but the standard of general fishing I've seen has been fairly crude.
