It's 5.05 am here and history has just been made. I'm not an American, but I'm crying too... America has today really grown up (in the nicest possible sense).
Now the work begins for the USA AND THE REST OF US TOO!
a ball of emotions over here. proud to be an american, proud to be a human being. we've witnessed an important moment in history, and i can't wait to see where this victory brings us--as a country and as a global community.
i only hope the rest of the country and the rest of the world who may have been against him is able to put aside their anger and disappointment and work together towards the future.
Oh, and by the way...
CIAO BUSH!!!!!!!!!!

I was watching live coverage on TV this morning (Sky News and Fox News - btw Fox seemed to be in favour of McCain last night - is that right?), and I felt really emotional too though I'm not American either. I didn't cry but got goose bumps. Such a welcome change.
I just heard the news and was surprised how happy it made me. While I´ve been avoiding election coverage as much as possible, I´m sure the election of Obama is a good thing for the world and will bring change for the better. I´m really happy for all of you Americans.

Rupert's a flexible chap. His networks and newspapers back different horses in different races and his only priority is profit. The Fox News audience has been falling away so you can probably expect a shift in its leanings.
Good morning, friends! We were up all night in front of the TV, started crying during the blessing, and didn't stop for an hour. I'm still weepy with joy, and proud to say I'm an American today!!!
So happy and excited! We stayed up until 2am watching CNN (ugh - can't stomach Fox) but that was about my limit. Woke up this morning to this wonderful news.
JAP - I hope you're right that this election has an influence on Italian politics too. Otherwise, I'm just gonna have to move back to the US.
Oh the right wing media giants on the world stage will really need to sit up and listen now!
The Fox/Sky and Media Set channels (aka Rupert Murdoch and Silvio Berlusconi) will have to watch their backs now... The 'God Mamon' from now on will NOT be the 'be all and end all' of the chosen few or the tool to make us all poorer while they amass their fortunes.
The world stage has finally begun to change scenery and vox popoli, from today, is no longer going to tolerate greed over common sense.
Last night a refreshing breath of fresh air blew through the portals of government in America, I feel it will have a profound effect on the world in general.
It is a new day for us all - so all you fat cats BEWARE. Your day is done!
The right to happiness is coming home to us all at last!

Yep, they're our right-wing network. I always figured it was Murdoch's influence. Is Sky right-leaning as well?
Like Graeme says, he is pretty flexible. Sky News is doing a review of the civil rights movement and slavery at the moment and how the US has got to today. Martin Luther is on right now.
Congrats, everyone! Very excited to open a new chapter of American politics. And also because if McCain won I told everyone I was not moving back to the US in the next four years so at least now I can go back home if I want to!
