This is kind of long.

So, um, when I got my visa I signed the affidavit of insurance, saying that I'd get insurance in Italy when I got here. I checked with Lori who studied in Italy (Lori rocks!), who let me know that it's something you pay at the post office. She gave me the payment info she had and suggested I checked with the school this morning just to make sure it's correct.

So, I checked with the secretary who told me I have to go to the Questura (they have a smaller office in my school, which is only for students of my school - AND they are open every morning. cool huh!!) and they would give me the information.
SO, I waited in line for about two hours, and by the grace of God or something, one of the girls that works there decided she liked me and rushed me to the front (I got some "looks" from those stuck waiting), where I was able to ask all the questions I wanted, about insurance, my permesso, etc...

She seemed to have no idea what I was talking about and didn't seem to believe me when I told her that I do NOT have American insurance and that I was told by the secretary to ask here about the foreign student insurance to get at the post office.

She did not get me at all - very sweet girl though - and kept telling me to come back in and bring documents for my American insurance. I explained it in two different languages and finally she said she didn't know and to come back tomorrow or Thursday to ask one of her colleagues.
I'm thinking either I should find out elsewhere (somebody here perhaps?) what info to put on the form at the post office, OR, I should just go to the main questura (yuck), which is open at times that clash with my classes.
I have an appointment at the smaller questura for Friday and I'd like to have everything ready.
Heeeeeeelllppp??!!

(Jeez, what an initiazion!)

You want to register with the Italian health system at the student rate. I want to say 187 Euros for a year. If you do a search here it should be covered. I think Big Grin

Big PDF of info

Page 117. 149,77 Euros for students.

In general that looks like an interesting document for the people on this site. At least at first glance.

Thanks Nick! I can always rely on you (or Michael Ernesto) to come up with all sorts of good information. I will check it out.

A side note - I enjoyed posting my question, as it was my first question asked WHILE IN ITALY!!! Cool huh.

I actually kind of hated it here yesterday, but got over it, realizing that once I get everything done, I won't have to worry about it for a while. The three hours of waiting yesterday at school, made the questura line of two hours much easier to handle and so today at the very least I was a little irritated but didn't let it spoil my day. A bit exhausting though.

Gee, was today ever good. I went back to the questura today and there was NO LINE!!! The girl there remembered exactly who I was and it turned out she had done all her homework and had all the insurance info for me that I needed. (And as I'm a foreign student it's just 49 euros) In fact, she was happy to see me, shouted "CIAO!" and waved me over to her sportello as soon as I got there. Weird. Kind of like a dream. Smiler
