Doesn't address the issue of the thread- Berlu is riding a 65% favorable rating. Your friend in Brescia aside, Berlu's popularity is sky-high.

I think people fear the alternative more than like Berlu. Many Italians believe the alternatives are just front men for left wing extremism. If you lived here through the '70's and '80's you would understand where those attitudes come from.

No, the alternative I was referring to was the other electoral choices:

"Many Italians believe the alternatives are just front men for left wing extremism."

Right or wrong, many Italians believe these "alternatives" were ready to welcome Russian tanks with open arms.

Yes. Although Berlusconi and his Government are going down (-20% in popularity since September) the opposition is not doing well either. Only 30% of centerleft voters are satisfied with their Party, the PD.
