I'm looking for information about artist residencies in Italy. I'm an artist and dual citizen so this seems like a perfect oppurtunity to get to know my roots.

There is a website called transartists.nl that lists some but those seem very mainstream and often costly.

Often In the U.S. towns or other cultural bodies offer short residencies where they give you free work - live space in exchange for doing a public art project or a show.

Anything similar in Italy? A website ( Italian or English) is great or other suggestions on where to start looking....?

Thanks

Perhaps your focus should be on U.S.-based foundations or schools that offer grants or residency programs. For example, maybe you could come up with an interesting proposal for some place like this. There must be lots of other U.S. organizations like this one.

This particular center is on a spectacular promontory just outside of the village of Bellagio, overlooking Lake Como.

That is a good general suggestion, Thank you.

And yea, that sounds great. And it is possibly worth applying for although they ask for: "The Foundation seeks applicants who are able to demonstrate a history of significant achievement in their respective artistic disciplines." Although I have a small art career probably the Rockefeller foundation is not interested in me.

On the other hand, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Stephan, modesty is nice, but it won't get you a residency! After looking at your Web site, it's clear that you have credentials; make the most of them.

I think it would be important to come up with an appropriate proposal. Perhaps something relating to your murals -- like studying frescos. There can't be too many people in the U.S. doing that. Maybe others have some ideas to help.

Go for it. Good luck.
