Now that I have received two tickets, and I need to go to Florence tomorrow, where the heck am I supposed to enter the city where I won't get a ticket and park so that I am within walking distance of the city? Oltrarno?

I am going to a place off Via Tornabuoni.

I usually park at smn, you can always find a space and you won't get a ticket. It's a close enough walk to via tornabuoni.

Over on SlowTalk there is a map of all of the ZTL zones to avoid. Personally, I prefer to take the bus from Siena.

Pratically all the parking spaces are either metered or reserved to residents. A parking silo or metered parking area is a good, often the only choice.

The underground park under the station is a good idea (access through viale Fratelli Rosselli - via Alamanni; exit through via Valfonda), but it gets expensive quickly.

Another choice would be the parking area under the city wall; you enter it at porta Romana (not easy to spot) and exit, after paying, at piazza Tasso. Walking time to via Tornabuoni about 15 minutes.

Other choices are the underground parking at Fortezza da Basso or under Parterre at Piazza della Libertà. More distant than SMN but cheaper.

How about parking for free at a small town's train (or bus) station and taking the train into the centro of Firenze? We do this when we go to Venezia, instead of paying the high parking rates at Tronchetto or Piazza Roma.

You come off the autostrada at Firenze Certosa.

This one is near me and is usually a good bet. via T is about a 15 minute walk from here, tops. If you exit the carpark from the entrance rather than the exit you head straight down via Serragli until you get to the river, cross the bridge and turn right down either Parione or vigna della nuova. Via T. is at the top of both these.

We usually park in the parking lot at SMN. Our other favorite spot is at Piazzale Michelangelo, which is free. It's a bit of a hike (especially with a stroller) but there's usually a spot and you can't beat the view!
