Anyone got any experience of the running costs of the big 1500+ litre underground LPG tanks for cooking/heating and how they compare to regular piped Metano ? More expensive I'm sure - but a little ? a lot ?

And...

Has anyone actually paid to have the necessary pipework laid to have mains Metano delivered into their property ? Again, would really appreciate an idea of the costs involved.

(We're about 175 metres from the end of the nearest Metano pipeline and need to find out whether we get our gas delivered by tanker...or whether it's cheaper to ask Metamer to lay a pipe)

Thanks

I think the cost of running the pipe would make up for the price difference- we have people here a few hundred feet from the gas line who still use GPL after 20 years.

GPL costs 9+ times what metano costs here in Siena. I say go for the pipe! Most of my neighbors pay around 2000+ euro per year for GPL. Others who use the same inSIena using metano spend about 400.

Wow, €400 a year is cheap! I pay that per month if you average out the annual cost.

Do they use gas for heat or only hot water/cooking?

I'd endorse that. Since we arrived, our gas bills - allowing for the fact that we lie in rented accommodation and therefore probably pay a higher rate - have been:
Dec/Jan - 506
Feb/Mar - 404
Apl/May - 385
Jun/Jul - 85
Latest - 31
ie - switch the heating off and the price plummets !
