I noticed that our ExxonMobil (gasoline) credit card worked at Esso stations in Canada. Does anyone know if the same card (issued in USA) also works (or not) at Esso stations in Italy?

There should be a 1-800 number on your card. I'd give them a call and ask.

Thanks for the reply Bill, but that is kind of the problem -- they (Citibank) cannot seem to come to a consensus on this. A different answer everyday depending on who you ask.

We were preparing to assume it WON'T work, and if it does, then that's a bonus. If not, we can always use a different card that does. Nothing like havign a contingency plan or six...

OK... in case anyone else runs into this...

While the Exxon "customer service line" (ie: Citibank call center) will tell you "suuuuuure!", I e-mailed Esso Italia (in Italian) and was told "no".

If you're moving to Italy, it will be handy to have an Italian bank account. Have the bank give you a Bancomat card- you can use it at gas stations, supermarkets, department stores, hospitals, pretty much everywhere.
