In a previous post, someone said they used Clements International for their car insurance.

I just went onto the site and got a quote for full comprehensive, liability, premium coverage with a $250 deductable.

The price I was quoted was $312.00 US. Can this really be possible????

The Italian company has been charging me about 1400 Euro per year - and it doesn't cover my car damages, if I am at fault, rental car, or much else of what Clements is quoting!

Our Premier option offers members extended coverage benefits including increased liability limits, guaranteed value coverage of the automobile, and additional reimbursement of auto rental insurance expenses.

comprehensive, theft and collision coverage for your automobile while it is being operated or parked abroad. Our unique policy also affords automobile rental reimbursement, Disablement Towing Coverage and optional coverage for duty expenses.

That's about what I pay for just liability (RCA) from USAA. I have a 5 year old Mini Cooper S (in case the model affects the price). Does the quote include tax and the emergency treatment contribution? Those are about $60 of the price.

Anyway, sounds like a very good price.

You driving a 20 year-old Panda ??

Sounds a great quote. I'm with Clements - pay a bit over $900 for a UK-reg Subaru SUV.

I have an Opel Astra Vectra - 2001. The car is valued on the "books" by my existing insurance company at 3000 Euro and I inserted a purchase price, on the Clements International quote, as $5000.00.

alaskaitaly, You sent me a pm but I don't have the required membership to respond directly to you. I purchased our policy via Italsure and it is from Clements, their AutoElite policy with full coverage. For our '96 Fiesta the coverage for two drivers was closer to $800.

When I dealt with Italsure I was able to talk to a person to verify what I would be getting, I think they were in GB.

We have not had to use their services for an accident (knock on wood) so no experience on that end.

I think I paid over $1000 for a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Maybe check with them to make sure it is a whole year's coverage, Alaskaitaly?

Bryon - you guessed my question. I was concerned about the service once a claim is made.

Yes, I was wondering if the rate was for less than a year but their page did not state the length for which the quote was given. But I will check.

Even if it were for 6 months, the price would still be about 1/2 of what I am paying here in Italy and not getting as much coverage!

UPDATE on the actual cost of the Clements policy.

The original quote I received, and for which I was worried about its accuracy, was only for physical damage to my car. So, if I had an insurance policy here in Italy which does not cover damage to my car (whether it is my fault or not) - this would have covered me.

The additional coverage for the Liability coverage - to cover damage to the other guy - again, whether the accident is my fault or not - was an additional $630.00 with Italian taxes.

Total...$ 1055.00 with a $250 deductable

For 753,00 Euro I have, truly, full coverage with coverage for windshield damage, towing, a small amount for car rental while your car is being worked on and theft coverage.

The price is 150,00 Euro less than this next year's premium, with the Italian agency, which only covers liability for the other driver.
