For cardholders of Visa-, MasterCard-, or Diners Club-branded payment cards who were charged to make transactions in a foreign currency, or with a foreign merchant, between February 1, 1996 and November 8, 2006, there is a class action suit pending. Last day to make a claim is 30 May (I just found out about it today).

Back in 2007, Apr 24th to be exact, JoanSi mentioned this class action suit on this site. It was in a thread called exchange rates in the money section. I was surprised it never got talked about more. I filed a claim at that time, and am patiently waiting to hear from them. I know they have extended the deadline, and changed some of the filing criteria. I think what they did is give you an option to file without having receipts etc., and agree to accept payment of, I think $25.00. During the years of the suit, we were running a bicycle touring business over here and charged a whole bunch of things on credit cards, so I am hopeful for at least a little more than $25.00 back. JoanSi, did you ever file?

I just found out about this and filed mine today. Thanks for posting this information. I am glad to be getting even with my credit card companies, even if it's $25 at a time.

Funny thing, one time I had two VISA from FirstUSA and they mistakenly reported on my account that I owed $500000 on one, and $600000 on another. Needless to say, I called to complain and it was corrected the next day.

Monica, if you received a claim number when you filed, there is a place on the site where you can check the status.

I too had less than $2500 in foreign credit card purchases during the period, so I'll only get $25. But it only took 5 minutes to apply for the claim on line, so why not? Smiler

I just did the same for my wife last night. The paperwork was lost in a pile of junk mail and darling daughter reminded me that the deadline was approaching. Anything to get money back from a bank!!!

If you use Bill's link, above, click on "Home" at the top of the page and check out FAQs (red ink) on right hand side of page, then click on "When Will I receive my claim". In short you have to wait until the court settles the case.

Thanks Bill 2 and Gil. I entered my claim number and it basically told me it was closed to applications now, but no info specific to my claim. I imagine it could take quite a while to settle this case. It will be a nice surprise if/when it happens.

From what I read, they have a preliminary settlement and are waiting on the court to approve. Sounds like they're part way through the process, at least.
