Has anyone else had difficulty financing/leasing a car with an ER VISA (no work/paychecks from Italy)?

I've been attempting to get a new car.

At first, I was told I have to prove I have work in Italy - they want a pay stub from Italy.

Now with an ER VISA, this is not possible.

Now, this morning, I was told I can finance or lease but only with an Italian guaranteeing the purchase or lease!!!

I had two friends who both have residency here with long term work contracts who were going to guarantee for me - but because they are not Italian - their guarantee won't work!

Anyone come across this sort of problem, and, if so, any solution?

Thanks so much.

I don't know about leasing but you can definitely buy a car here as a non-Italian on a visa. Have you tried talking to another bank?

I took out a small loan from a bank in the states and had the money transferred to the dealership here in Italy...easy. Is it not possible for you to do something similar?

I haven't tried - but I had assumed, since the bank would not have any collateral in that they couldn't get the car if I was behind in payments - the bank would not think of giving a loan on a car in another country.

If you are talking about a line of credit type loan - the interest rates are quite high - I think..but I will look into it.

AND...my preference is to LEASE a car here - so it isn't the money - it is that the leasing company wants an "Italian" guaranteeing the lease.

I'm going to go to Unicredit next week and see about the leasing options they offer (thanks to the poster who gave me this info) - as I have been their client for over 5 years - I am hoping they will have a different take on leasing to me.

Thank you all for the info.
