We have tentatively enrolled our daughter in a public Montessori scuola materna for September. Does anyone have any experience with public Montessori schools? I am curious as to how "Montessori" the school will really be.

Isn't it an Italian that founded them? I know the idea is well established here and a lot of schools kind of have it in there ethos anyway.

The regular public schools still use some of Dr. Montessori's ideas (for example, mixed ages) but no, they are not proper MOntessori schools. They have neither trained Montessori teachers nor the Montessori materials. I am just wondering how much more Montessori the public Montessori schools are.

Pola, I am not LOOKING for a Montessori public school. I have already found one (indeed from the very link that you provided) and have tentatively registered our daughter there. I am just wondering how Montessori it will be given that it is public.

Do Sylvio B's children go to a public Montessori school? I do not require more info on the Montessori method generally. I already know enough about it.

It looks like you are going to have to go with your instincts on this one. I'm guessing you have visited the school already.

one thing I would say though and this is from experience, what you will perceive to be a good example of this type of school might not be somebody elses. Also it won't matter how good it is, it is how much your child settles in there that will matter in the end.
