I would like to take the training for teaching English as a Foreign Language and get the certification for it. Anyone know where the best place in Rome to do this is?

I got mine at International House Roma. I have nothing but good things to say about it, but have nothing to compare it to either.

I also got mine at the International House in Rome. I do agree that it was excellent and the location was also perfect. I would highly recommend it.

Catherine & Amy, I assume you did the CELTA program at IH -- are you using your certificates? If so, are you happy with your work situations? I'm interested in any comments, advice, warnings, suggestions, etc., regarding your experience AFTER International House.
Thanks!

If you have a permesso di soggiorno, you have excellent teaching opportunities afterwards, actually. But you have to be pretty competitive. If you don't have a PdiS, then the pickins are quite slim, unfortunately.

Thanks Cassi (- sorry for the late reply, but I'm just getting settled in after a somewhat hectic move).

I just mailed my application this week to IH in Rome for the intensive course starting in January. Did the school offer you any assistance with finding work? After completing the course, how long did it take for you to find a job? Thanks for your thoughts.

It's been 10 years since I got my certificate, but it has been invaluable to getting me to my current job which is as an ESL teacher at the University if Siena. I started in a private school earning next to nothing and working more hours than is healthy. I could have gotten this job without the certificate. However, my next job was with the Province of Florence and I would not have stood a chance without it. This job paid me 4 times that of the private school. Once I was in the State system I was able to move up and forward to land my now secure and decently paid job. The extra added bonus to getting the certificate is that it actually teaches you an approach to teaching English. I would have been lost and miserable without that knowledge.
Good luck!

Amy - Just curious, do you think it is still necessary for you to obtain the ESL cert. if you have an English degree in teaching?

Question: when I look up a website for International House Roma, I see three different listings - one is called DILIT (on Via Marghera), one is on Viale Manzoni, and the other is on Via San Godenza. Can someone tell me which one is referenced above? Thanks.
