I am living in Milan and I was wondering if anyone can prepare me on the daycare system in the city. Private vs Public, Italian vs Bi-lingual, are there any English only schools? Good stories and bad please, I want to be prepared! Thanks

In Milan there are plenty of English-language daycare centers. They tend to be a little pricey though. You'll need to call around to all the places in your area to find out rates (depending on your income and the place you get into, you can expect to pay anywhere from € 200-800). The state-run places usually have waiting lists and you get bumped up if both parents work, you have a low income, etc. The private places are usually easier to get into because they cost a little bit more. You are definitely going to want to visit them. And also remember to ask what their policy is on meals/diapers. Some supply everything, others nothing. Some places won't take babies until they are 11 or 12 months old. Others take them at three months. Your best bet is to ask the mothers at your local playground (that's what I did) to get the scoop on the local nidi.
