Hello! I was wondering if anyone might have any information on attending just a few courses at an Italian university next academic year. I've been wading around the study-in-italy website and also the websites of the few universities I know of off the top of my head (Bologna and Perugia, essentially), but I'm finding myself still confused.

Basically, I have a BS from a good US school and want to spend a year in Italy and was thinking it might be nice to take advantage of the comparatively cheap education there to take a few classes. In terms of language, I took four semesters of Italian and feel... moderately comfortable with it, I guess.

Does anyone know the procedure for enrolling in individual courses (do you have to be accepted, or can you just pay and come)? Do you absolutely need to go to a universita per stranieri and take Italian courses first, or can you just sort of show up and have them take your word for it that your Italian is good enough? Any answers would be really really appreciated!

Hey, I think I might be able to help you.
But my situation is a little bit different because I have dual EU/ US citizenship. I also have an undergrad and am looking at a Graduate Program in Colorno. It seems for the Italian consulate to process my application and verify my degree they need the following documents:

You are welcome to email directly at: philulbrich@aol.com I look forward to hearing from you.

LIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
1) Application available at www.miur.it
2) Two passport size photos
3) Photocopy of passport (page with photo and data)
4) Fed Express envelope with filled out air waybill to be used by the Consulate to send the document to the University.
Please write the student address as sender and the Italian University as recipient.
5) Notarized copy of High School diploma with Apostille (no translation needed)
6) Notarized copy of 12th grade report with Apostille and translation (Transcript of the 11th grade are also required if they
include AP courses).
7) Copy of SAT results
8) Copy of College/University transcript with Apostille and translation (*) (**)
9) Letter from the university stating the status of the student as "Junior"
10) Description of the courses completed with translation (no Apostille needed)

(*) If the student has completed at least 4 AP courses with a minimum point of 5, then the completion of only one year
of College (30 hors) is require for enrollment at Italian Universites.
(**) Enrollment with credits:
The student who has earned more than 60 credits may request enrollment with "abbreviation of the course" and may
receive credits by the Italian University.

"LAUREA MAGISTRALE" OR MASTER PROGRAMS
Upon completion of the Bachelor, students may apply to the courses leading to the "Laurea Magistrale" or Masters.
The documents listed above are required and must be integrated with:
1) Notarized copy of Complete transcript with Apostille and translation
2) Notarize copy of the Bachelor diploma with Apostille (no translation needed)

Well, I understand the difference between "corsi singoli" and "corsi di laurea."

You just want to take a few courses and not enroll in a degree track, right?

I am a US citizen with a US BFA, and I am trying to do the same thing at the Università di Studi Firenze.

My theory is that the Equipollenza Titolo/i, rather than the Dichiarazione di Valore is enough. I would double-check with the Italian Embassy in Washington website, as I'm sure you've encountered, the consular websites tend to have some pretty big holes.

Anyway, il mio piano diabolico is to go to my local consulate (San Francisco) with my diploma, my translation, a fax from U of Firenze saying nothing is preventing me from taking these courses, Bambi-eyes, and beg them to let me enroll in corsi singoli.

I'm trying to avoid going through the Dichiarazione di Valore process, especially since the enrollment deadline for CS is in one week!
