can anyone tell me what the name in Italian for sorrel is? I can't find it in my dictionary... also is something at the market they are selling that starts with a barr....and they told me it was like spinach...does anyone know what that is... it tastes rather sour or citrusy....green leaffy product...thanks
Sorrel is known in Liguria as erbetta, and that might work elsewhere as well. The lemony stuff you mention might be borraggine--borrage? Kind of hairy, as opposed to slick, leaves?

Borage tastes distinctively of cucumber. A decent addition to a Pimms. Aside from this - and having nice blue flowers - think that's about the limit of its use. Borage leaves are 'furry'; sorrel leaves are smooth.
Sorrel is lemony and sorrel sauce goes well with salmon. Would be surprised if it was on sale in a market, because it doesn't keep that well once picked.
