I confess, I dont go to the main site very often. But in the last week I've gone a few times, and it seems to take a long time to load?

Everything else loads fine (forums are fast, other websites are fast) so I tend to think its not just me...

I know that the main site is on a different host, is it because of this?

It's not a horendous ammount of time to load, as I know it will load - and its certainally faster than internet used to be! If I was new to the site though I may think that it wasnt going to load and get impatient and cancel it, thus never seeing the information.

....?

Right now it seems very fast to me.

OTOH up to this morning the google image at the bottom of the forums page was taking forever to load. I don't think that's a problem related to this site but something with google. I actually had a slow time getting to google.com itself yesterday.

Well, the main page itself loads fast for me (expatsinitaly.com) but when I click on any of the links to info pages from there they take awhile to load...

Just going from the main toolbar... The first three for example:
"Getting started" took about 20 seconds to load
"upon arrival" only took about 10 (not toooo slow)
"daily life" took over 30! (I stopped counting at 30) and also caused my browser to be unresponsive for awhile while it was 'thinking'

The others arent too bad, taking about 5 seconds or so to load, but it sits on the plain page for just long enough that it makes you think it wont load. Realistically its not a long time. But compared to how fast sites normally load now a days, it can cause the impression that it isnt loading.

Again, its not a bother to me - I'm just thinking of someone who has come to the site for the first time.

All fine for me. One thing I noticed is one gave me a google ad error. Look at the bottom left of the page. You'll see "Google ads" See if the part below that isn't coming in.

I see the google ads fine. perhaps its being slower because those are loading. it just sits on the blank tan page for a long time and then all the content loads at once.

Lori, I uploaded a bunch of changes over the past couple of days. Mainly to the templates since I had to change the copyright dates. Try to delete your cookies and try again. If that doesn't do it, let me know the operating system and the browser you are using.

FWIW, I am on dialup and the pages load quickly for me.

I deleted my cookies, but it doesnt seem to have helped. I'm using Safari on a mac, when it is slow. If I use firefox its a little faster (though i tend not to use firefox much because of how much extra memory it takes up) but still not what i would consider to be a normal speed.

I just checked on my PC using Explorer, and its much faster. so its not a problem with my internet connection... must be something on the site that the browsers on my mac dont like.

That's strange, the forum always works fine for me, its only the mainsite that is slower! It seems like no matter how much technology advances we always have problems. Roll Eyes
