Remember last month when I signed up as an affiliate with Overstock? Well if you notivce, their button is no longer on the site. Reason? The worst customer service in the world. I decided to test the waters and ordered some sheets. Those sheets have ben sitting "In Transit to International Hub" since Dec. 29. I have sent emails to no avail. I just get a runaround. I have called but they disconnect you. Upon further research I find that their customer service is noted as being awful. Before it was supposedly good but in the last year they have fallen. Do a search on them and you will see.

So hopefully no one has purchased from them and I am very sorry for any problems.

Thanks for the "Heads Up" as their TV ads (in the USA at least) are very convincing!!! Good luck!

Yeah, Cristina....same here... I actually tried quite earnestly to make a purchase, and it was all way too complicated.....but it seemed like SUCH a great site.....Oh well, ya live ya learn...I sure wish that SOMEPLACE was willing to take a european address credit card and deliver to the States. We have such trouble with our mail at home in Torino, I'd love to be able to have things occassionally delivered to me when I'm stateside...

Try putting in a random USA zip code. Some on-line software programs confirm credit card numbers with zipcodes (which is why you have trouble with your Italian CAP) but other software devs can't be bothered with this added security feature. In that case, any old zip code will sometimes work. I use Rome Georgia and 2 our of three times it works!

Then again, could be the city name too...but give it a shot!

I don't have a problem with using my US credit card with an Italian address to make purchses of any kind. How the heck would I order birthday presents, otherwise? Maybe contacting the unhelpful site via email would help?

Still on the subject of buyer beware but a bit different. All the Italian stores are full of toys made in China. Well everything seems to be made in China these days. But for some reason the toys are especially bad. My kids got their share of stuff for Christmas, but I've noticed the same problems before. We are talking about toys that don't last more than a few days under the use of a typical child. For example a radio controled car, it's gears striped out after one day, I repeat ONE day. A western style rifle, broke after 3 or 4. This stuff is just junk and should be avoided.

The credit card with italian address is no problem UNLESS I want the stuff delivered stateside, which is sometimes more convenient for me...or by example sending a gift to my parents in the States (See's candy and Harry and David's are favorites!) THEN the problems start. I think Passerotto's suggestion might be a good one and will try it next time...thanks!

I know some shops won't deliver to anything but the CC address. It's a safety feature. Both for you and the shop. Imagine if your card is stolen and somebody starts ordering stuff to be delivered to a different country?

OTOH the shop might give you the option of confirming you are you. Maybe faxing in some ID or other means.

Or maybe you can buy a "gift" This way the bill and other paperwork would be sent to the address on the card but the item would be sent to the person receiving the gift.

I understand that threads drift but I do not want to lose sight of the reason for my post. Overstock.com's bad customer service and incompetant shipping practices. For badly made products and credit card problems, maybe we should start another thread so that they do not get lost to searches.

Then again, maybe people could do a Review on the company's and shops that sell dangerous articles....

Overstocks products are crap too. And watch out for the re-stocking fees if you want to return something. I bought a cashmere sweater there and it was wrong color, wrong size and cheap cheap CHEAP but returning it was such a hassle.

Boycott Overstock. The competition far exceeds. Like Amazon, for instance.

Okay so I have been warned off Overstock. Can anyone recommend an alternative? I am looking for a site that will ship to Italy that does household goods, including bed linen etc. Doesn't matter if they only take US credit cards.

Amazon.com is good, and also I've used LLBean with no issues, but they can be a bit expensive. Great service, though!

Cristina,
I noticed today that the ad link to Overstock is still on the Expats Main Site page...
Is this correct?

Kerry,

I've shipped here from the US Amazon.com site. I know they have an international tab which when opened doesn't include Italy, but if you just use the US site, and enter your Italian address when it comes time to enter the shipping address, they will ship here. I've only used my US credit card with them, so I don't know if they will accept a foreign one. I know LLbean will take my Italian card with no issues.

Do you have friends/relatives stateside who can ship them to you?

It's odd- the bed linens we've purchased over here seem much higher quality than in the states. The fabric seems much thicker and sturdier (higher thread count maybe?). Don't think I'll be mail ordering the ones from the states anymore (especially with the difficulty finding reasonably priced shipping).

Cristina; that's unfortunate because I was curious about there overseas shipping. Overall in the states I've had very good experiences with them. When they sent me the wrong size they paid shipping and no restock fee. I think for a bargain site they're pretty good.
