Okay, another thing.

We need to get a FAQ going. Basically what we should have is like the FAQ on the forum at www.slowtalk.com We have a thread for a specific topic and in the thread we list the threads that have covered said topic. We could use all the help we can get on this as it is really hard for me on dialup (just changing the templates yesterday and the day before so they have the correct copyright dates (one of my pet peeves is people who don't change these) took a day!

So first, we need to compile a list of the most frequently asked questions. Then if everyone could take one topic and list the different threads that have discussed this, we could get it done in no time.

I will set up a new subforum for FAQs and then we can place them there but first, the questions. I'll start:

How much do utilities cost?
What are the best phone companies for home and internet use?
Which cell phone company?
Errors on documents for citizenship?

next . . . .

This seems like it would work best as a collaborative effort. Also, answers will change over time. Any way to set this up in a wiki format? Unfortunately beyond my capabilities.

I could set up a wiki but honestly, don't want another program. Yes it would have to be a collaborative effort and I am hoping that some of the members here would be willing to take a topic or two and go from there.

So far the list of topics looks great.

Okay then, time to get the ball rolling. I'll start, and hope that others will volunteer to take on other questions.

What I'll do now, is to find threads covering

Various options for mailing packages (to & from Italy) and duties
Registering with the medical system
and list them in a

ok, where should I list them? lightbulb In new threads with the title "FAQ: Mailing packages" and "FAQ: Registering with the medical system" I guess, but we're going to need a FAQ subforum to put them in. My suggestion is that we put them all in one place (say, here) to begin with and then once the subforum is created we can move all the FAQ threads there.

There are some topics whose answers depend upon whether you are a EU or Non-EU person(s). For those I think it would be a good idea to split the answers along those lines. Otherwise, people can be really sent off in the wrong direction.

Okay, subforum is set up. Thanks Annika for getting the ball rolling.

If there is a difference for EU or Non, it should be mentioned but I don't think we can split them up always (if we can great) as something might start non EU and turn into EU.

Some of these ideas are good but not all are necessary. I will work on a list of the most popular topics and we can go from there and then the others we can add in over time.

Mi scusi, as a new member to this wonderfully informative site, may I interject something???
First, I have bought and read the book shown on the site and heartily recommend it for most of the answers if not some direction on finding more information about these questions" Survival Guide, living and working in Italy", for less $$ on amazon.com if you are frugal Smiler

second, sorry Bill but I don't understand the Ben bash comment? surely you were joking I hope

Best to all always!!

Ok, let's clarify. The FAQ is not really supposed to give the answers (I think most answers are already on the main site) but to point people to previous discussions on a specific topic. There is much to be learned from a discussion which can't be found in any articles or books, and it is often easier to find the right answers.
Many questions are asked over and over again on the forum - no matter how clear the information on the main site is or how great some book may be. And we answer, over and over again.
The idea is that if you can find that your question has already been asked, you might not need to ask it again.

Oh, and Bill's comment about Ben is - well, call it an internal joke. Ben loves links.

I have partial answers to some of these questions in various articles on my site. If such is welcome, I can search through and recommend specific links.
