I am deleting my original message so that everyone sees the correct steps to get logged in. Please follow the steps and if you are an old member, make sure you link your account. IT can be done. Here are the steps:

  • Step 1 - You need to first click Login/Join at the top right of the main Expat Talk Forum page.
  • Step 2 - a new page will open which is the Groupee Login. Fill out the form as it applies to you.
  • Step 3 - If you had an account at the old forum for Expats in Italy, click Yes, put in your correct username and click Lost Password (your old password is no longer valid).
  • Step 4 - A new window will open. Here you will need to type in the correct email that you used with the old system.
  • Step 5 - After a minute you should receive an email with a new password.
  • Step 6 - Go back to the login screen and put in the username and the new password and then click to the check box to link the expattalk account with Groupee and click enter.
  • Step 7 - Verify the email that expattalk sends you and you will be all set.
  • Step 8 - To login to expat, click login on the main screen, enter your groupee email and password and enter.
As a side note, you do not need to log out every time you leave the site. If you stay logged on you can enter and post without ever having to enter your password info again party09

I am so sorry for this but do believe that the board will be much better with Infopop/Eve.

I'd really like my name back... BellissimaTina

It's too hard to remember to attach a "1" to the end of my name...

if that's ok?

barb just told me a way around this problem (THANKS BARB). set up a new groupee account, when you get to the screen where it asks you if you want to link it with expats, type in your username and then click lost password. it will ask for your original email address and will send you a new password. you can then link your groupee account with expats! So Tina and Alexandra, you can have your names back with all your old posts included.

off to get kids to bed.

No luck opening the link in their confirmation email using my .mac email account and Safari browser - nothing happens. Explorer worked but I suspect deeper compatibility issues for Mac users.

Page looks nice but the login stuff is kind of a pain.

For those who have not been able to link to their old account, have you followed the directions above? I need to know so I can submit a support ticket. For the full directions check http://www.expattalk.com

Please let me know.

I did try the first time, but the second time, a few days later, I did not. My username wasn't a big deal to me.

Is that the info you wanted?

Also, it is weird that you have to log in for Groupee but not directly into expattalk. Seems weird to me b/c other boards (ST) could use groupee, right? And then you would be logged into everyone at the same time? Or is your especially linked?

You are dying b/c we are all technically challenged! Big Grin Thanks for your perserverence.

I think I should have the trophy for the most technically challenged twit !! I have somehow managed (?) to get 2 different passwords and numerous e mails in my inbox - am now thoroughly confused. I'll keep on trying, but have to rush off as stew is burning and kids will be all alone at school gate awaiting their technically incapable mother to collect them ! I have to say its all a bit confusing.
Ciao for today

I got in after much trial and error, tech dummy that I am, this stuff makes us empirical wizards, but I ain't loggin out again EVER since I don't really know how I got in! This is very nice in any case, lots of bells and whistles, thanks Cristina! This must have been a major headache. And Alisonk, what are we nuts, Mac users in Italy! Good luck to everyone.

I tried to follow your instructions, but I had set a second username in advance.
Groupee always send to me the actual password when I choose the forgotten password option, and doesn't show any option to link an old username anymore.
Not a big problem for me, since I only posted one message before the hosting change.
So I think the hinted steps only work for those who haven't set a new working username before trying to recover the old one.

ciao cristina,

i'm having trouble viewing a reply sent to my private email address. a few days ago i replied, via private post, to a message in the forum from megan. everything worked. i signed in, replied and received a reply at my private email address which i am unable to open.

when i put my email address and password in, i'm brought back to the initial sign in screen. thinking that i may have changed my password, i submitted a forgot password message. the password i had been using was the same and i'm still being denied access to the reply that was sent to my private email address.

please help! am i missing a step?

grazie mille!

Sorry about that Lynda, a few weeks (as well as before on the old forum) ago we got bombarded with some PMs that were SPAM (registered members who also post were trying to sell their goods and rent out their place)and after a lot of thought I pulled the plug as there is no way for me to know if the PMs are valid or SPAM. You are able to read but if you need to respond you will have to do it via email. Let me know if you need an address and I will forward a system message to them to contact you via email.
