I am currently breastfeeding but will be taking a medication that could be potentially harmful were it to pass into my breastmilk. As I begin weaning, I'm also going to switch to formula. I KNOW breastmilk is best (got through the difficult first months of sore nipples with a piranha baby who ate every 90 minutes and even recently spent two days in the hospital vomiting with a nasty stomach flu while alternately pumping breastmilk and breastfeeding my child - just to show my commitment level!) but, unfortunately, I need to take this medicine so this is the way it goes. That's a long-winded introduction to ask if anyone has used the Coop formula. I've heard a lot of good things about it and have heard that it has the same composition as the big-name brands sold in the pharmacy but it costs much less. I mentioned on another thread that my baby has eczema but we just did testing and he was cleared of food allergies, so he should be able to tolerate normal formula and I'm thinking about the Coop brand. Anyone have experience with it?

Yes, I used it exclusively (I know, I know but I just never got the hang of breastfeeding despite my ostetrica's best efforts!) and it was fine, no problems at all, and so much cheaper than the ones they push on you in hospital! Mad

Bill,
That's what they call them. I think it's somewhat of a technical term for voracious babies in breastfeeding circles. Smiler

C in Bo,
No need to 'mettere le mani avanti.' I know that they really do make you feel like if you don't breastfeed here, you are a bad mamma. I can't walk two feet down the street with the baby without someone stopping to ask 'lo allatti tu??' and then nodding approvingly when I say I do. I guess when I start formula, I'll have to hide out in the house. Or lie. I'm glad I'll have gotten a good six months of breastmilk in, but if you have to stop for some reason, that's just how it is. Glad the Coop milk worked out for you.

Get it and try it. I used it with no problems and sometimes I used other brands too and never had any problems or gave my kids any funny allergies etc. I even brought about 10 kilos of an English brand back from the Uk once. Don't know what customs officials would have said if they'd opened my case to find 5 bags of white powder. The only problem I encountered when i switched from breast to bottle was that baby didn't like the teat much and could still smell my milk. Got round that problem by making OH give baby the bottle of milk for 3 days until it was no longer a big change for him

You would have probably closed the airport for a day or two!

Our son had various different brands of formula, including the Coop one and we never noticed any difference between any of them to be honest... apart from the price tag - I would say definitely try the coop first unless he ends up needing some special formula for some reason.

Hi Michelle, I gave my son Coop formula as well and it worked fine for him (well, that was before he decided to quit drinking milk, but that's a different story, and I don't blame Coop for that ;-)).
My eldest suffered from reflux so she had to be on a special formula (luckily we lived abroad then and I travelled with a big load of formula in my suitcase too when we visited), but Coop seems ok for children who don't have special needs.

Best,
Raffaella

Hi Michelle,
I don't know how much the coop formula costs but have you checked Neolatte? It costs 9,90 for 900 grams and is bio and I heard a lot of good about it and also used it for a while with my baby.
