Congratulations to everyone...my goodness! THe expats will singlehandedly take care of the population crisis in Italy!! Smiler

Great news everyone. I loved being pregnant. Ate EVERYTHING except raw fish and my kids are fien allergy wise. Being a veggie I couldn't live without my fruit or nuts/nut butters. But, I agree that your body will tell you what tastes good. Enjoy this time...it goes fast!

I'm personally curious about your experiences with the whole process of being pregnant in Italy. I have a six week old(it feels like an eternity ago that I gave birth to her!) and am very nervous about getting pregnant in Italy for the second one around. Heck, I am incredibly nervous about having a little one and living in the outskirts of Rome. I've gotten too used to the convenience of having a baby in the States, that I don't know if I can take all of the traffic and lack of ease of mobility with a baby!

Oh, and I highly recommend getting some Gripe Water. - Yael - I tried some cuz I had never heard of it before. But it works great for baby's gas! It works so much better than the gas drops so many people use here! Plus the fact that it's natural is definite plus!

What a gorgeous little 'sprog', and so tranquil (that won't last long I bet....)

But hey - just how did you teach her the proper way to hold a cup in six weeks???? Look at that little finger bent at an angle while forefinger and thumb hold the cup handle!!!

Bless her!

Hehe...thanks! She does seem like she's contemplating the meaning of life or something or other! We should plan an Expat baby get together! That would make for a cute picture and memoir for later in their lives!

wow she is beautiful...Lila still looked like a hairy little monkey at 6 weeks, thankfully she is much cuter now!
Glad the gripe water helped, I'm bringing the spare (unopened of course) bottles to the gtg so any of you pregnant girls are more than welcome to have them.

Congratulations to Autumn and Bryan as well, twins Eeker blimey, hope you like changing diapers!! Big Grin

Eat what you want , drink what you want , do what feels right to you.
It is amazing how many rules and regulations there are these days on what to do and not do when pregnant.
Sure you could get toxiplasmosis, you could get god knows what from raw meat but you also could get hit by a truck crossing the street.
Moderation is the key.

Another important factor is to keep your stress level as low as possible - therefore , in my opinion - if you want a glass of wine than just have one. Or don't and get all stressed and crabby about it.

While a lot of the nausea is physical there is a small mental part (accepting that you are having a baby - being scared shi$$$ess about it - how is my life going to change and so on).

I am starting to learn that my body is telling me before hand what it does not want to eat.. one of those things is brownies Eeker. I made up a batch to bring in to school the other day and while they smelled wonderful, to me they smelled like they were really too strong or something. So no licking the spoon with the batter or brownie. Oh well.
As far as the drinking goes, a friend of mine in Ireland still went out drinking every saturday night while pregnant and the baby turned out fine. I dont agree at all with that, but I think that after the 1st trimester, an occasional sip once in a while is not so bad.
By the way, thank you yeal, but I must ask... what is gripe water?

no, unlukily no vaccine is available. Too bad I know but you can always eat tons of unwashed salad and touch stray cats before, you never know, you might get it and you will be immune for you future pregnancy.

I personally don't eat dirty salad but I touch raw meat (when I do the meatballs and meatloaf) and don't like it too well cooked, I also have had contact with all the possible stray cats available, I love animals and I always help them when found in the street and many many times I get scratched.

I really don't understand this fobia for toxo, as you can see here there are many infections that are dangerous if you get them while pregnant, plus as Kelly said there are so many dangers and we cannot really worry about everything, some gynecologist tell women that they cannot ride a bike or so many other things that they cannot do while pregnant. Pregnancy is a status not a disease andt a pregnant woman is not handicapped, is just pregnant, so I would just do what I feel and not worry too much.
I would definetively avoid to smoke but I am not a smoker so I really don't care.

circle

Congratulations girls!!!

Well, not mine. I don't plan to get pregnant for the next 35 years. After I turn 70, who knows what I may decide ;-P

And circle again for the other future moms! The fact that I am not exactly a motherly person does not mean that I am not happy for you!

Happy Happy for you. I was pg with my son in Japan and it KILLED me to NOT eat sushi. Listen to your body and eat the basic 5 groups and get those dark leafy greens in. If you are nausious. RootBeer has no caffeine and is settling to the tummy. I kept A&W in business........be good to yourself and get the book ( used on amazon if you can) what to expect when your exprecting...........
DOn't feel odd if the little old ladies want to rub your belly............ its pure love..........

FWIW, when I was pregnant 17 years ago, I never worried about cats (though we did not have any in the house then) or anything that I ate. I drank a little red wine even during the first trimester because Enrico's grandmother insisted it would fortify the blood.

I found Coke very good for controlling the nausea, and still use it for that today (though no longer pregnant!).

And we had a very healthy kid.

best regards,

madsville-
Thanks for the advice on root beer, but unfortunately we dont have it up here. I have found tho that the plain old coke works well also, and I am actually drinking some as we speak. As far as Japanese food, it is one of my favorite dishes and although I can not eat sushi (which I LOVE), I can still eat many of my other favorites which are cooked. I could not imagine tho being pregnant in Japan... I can understand your pain! LOL
