Does anyone know if there are boysenberry plants in Italy and how would you say it? My dictionary uses "mora" for both blackberry and boysenberry. If there aren't any here can they be brought in from the US or another country? Thanks, Sz

I have never seen them. "American" berries are hard to find, fresh cranberries are impossible to find as are thimble berries, salmon berries and marion berries. Good luck finding them, I know many of these berries are propagated from canes and they are impossible to ship over. Maybe they can be found in other parts of Europe.

Are the above berries West Coast berries? I've never seen them in NY or New England.

Yes most of these berries are West Coast berries. They are common in parks and on hikes so it is fun to have kids and adults alike pick them. I esp. love the thimble berries as they look like thimbles and are very sweet.

Welp I live on the East coast, but I've eaten at California Pizza Kitchen (a West coast chain). They once had an incredible dessert on their menu that had a scoop of chocolate-sprinkled gelato inside a baked wafercup smothered in a sauce of West Coast berries. That heavenly sauce included our friend, the Boysenberries (freakin superduper fantabuloso stuff, yum). Didn't include Girlsenberries, Hari Kari, Frankenberry, or Leisure-Suit Larry.
I admit I have zero recollection of ever seeing them packaged and sold on the East coast in any shops (and I've shopped some very bizarre places). I would guess someone in Europe would have had some berry planters shipped over for commercial purposes. They taste too good to not be crossing the ocean.

Question.. since nobody else asked...

Were'nt the Marion Berries caught smoking crack with a "lady of ill repute" and kicked off the menu only to be later demanded back into the fruit bowl by popular consent of the other fruit?

Gia,

Thanks for doing the Googling for me. Now I know how the Thimble Islands got their name. I have been to a few of these islands, they are about forty minutes from my house.

Thanks for all the interesting info about berries of all kinds! But does anyone know if either plants and/or canes can be brought into Italy from the states? Thanks, Sz
