Where to buy? What's it called here? Is it available? We're in northern umbria--near C di Castello, Arezzo, Perugia....

I came across oxblood at a ferramenta, but you could try the consorzio agrario since you're out in the country.

Never found B&B here, SS. And I've looked. The only thing I've found are variations on the oxblood that filomena mentions. I'd kill for some B&B. Potash and B&B, mixed at a ratio of 1:10, is the absolutely ideal organic fertiliser.

Graeme, What do you use instead of the B&B w/ potash? Have you ever tried importing from the UK? My garden needs something. We keep adding compost, manure, terraccio, hay, ..... etc., and still i feel like i need something else. We are organic so don't want to use chemical food.

Try to find a horse farm: they would probably give it to you if you agree to take it away. I've heard horse manure does wonders.

I investigated importing things from the UK but the shipping cost for bags of anything is prohibitive. I use mainly compost from the compost heap. Compost, per se, doesn't have a lot of nutrients in it so I add plenty of handfuls of an organic pelletised fertiliser during the composting process.

Horse poo, as filomena says, is good stuff, particularly if it's at least six months old. Or, if fresh, dug into the compost and allowed to mature for at least six months. But, again, it's not loaded with nutrients. Its main value is as a soil conditioner.

Anyway, it sounds like you're already adding all the right stuff, so I wouldn't worry too much. There's not much more you can do.

Might be a bit late..but I found powdered blood, bone and fishmeal (callled just the same in Italian if I remember correctly)in a little shop seemingly dedicated to all things chicken.

well alright they had dog collars and other animal foodstuffs too.

and some gardening stuff, mainly in bulk.

I am in the wilds of Lomellina so I'd say check out any little hole in the wall bulk animal foodstuff shops in small towns and villiges.
