Hi,

This topic was partly covered in another thread but I need to ask something slightly different.

I am going to be staying in Italy from September (Rome). Ideally I would like to take some driving lessons and pass a test. My Italian is pretty decent, and I'm not a complete novice to the wheel, I just haven't nailed it.

Can anyone comment on what kind of (if any) residency permit I would need to do this? And also how much the whole process would cost, especially if I had to sit the test more than once...

From the UK originally.

Thanks!!

Oeneric,

Do you have a British license? If so I understand that you can "convert" that to an Italian license. Yo may need to establish residenza before you can do that.

Try a search online for the Motorizazzone Civile in Rome, they may have more details for you.

No later than 90 days after arrival you'll need to request residenza at the ufficio anagrafe of your municipio. As an EU citizen, depending on your comune, you may need a registered rental contract, proof of minimum income, and private health insurance.
