My significant other and I are planning to tour round Italy in a camper van starting next month but are wondering where to buy the vehicle.

We want to get a second hand left hand drive vehicle and will be in italy for at least 6 months.
The boyf reckons we should buy when we get there but that makes me uneasy.
Do we have to register it if we are there over a certain amount of time / do we have to pay / get italian plates?
I heard a rumour that you get a once in a life time option to import a vehicle for free.... but then can we take it back to the UK without incurring more cost?

He's a small dealer, speaks English and seems relatively honest. We had no problems. I don't know about the legallity of buying if you are not a resident, but I think you can buy for export. I'm sure the same rules apply as for cars.

Italy is great for camper touring. We are in Croatia at the moment with ours on one of the islands. Great fun.
