Hi-
I just moved to Torino a month ago and I would love to hear from other ex-pats here in Torino?

I'm 27, moved with my boyfriend for his job, and I'm slowly learning Italian. Making friends has been tough, a few through my Italian class, but I really want to branch out and I'd love to meet any new folks! Perhaps there's already a lunch club (I saw some posts from 2007), so please send me an email at jillmariemadison@hotmail.com or post to this forum. Thanks & ciao-

Hey there! I am not much help at the moment since I will not be moving to Torino until early June, but I know myself and this really awesome gal named Beth (whom I have met personally in SF to discuss our moves to Torino, we met through this forum) are both moving around the same time. I hope you find some local friends in the meantime, but it would be fun to organize something with you (aperativo is my favorite Italian social event, and Torino is the home of the aperativo- yeah!), and you, Beth, and I are all around the same age range- I am almost 30... Lets try and stay in contact, my email is: jhilton@iuctorino.it, and all the best with your Italian!

Ladies, ladies! I am not usually so unobservant -- I missed these messages until just now -- "only" a month later, oy vey!(My paltry excuse is that the "what's new" function on the board listed these as already read! But my BF is a computer scientist and his frequent response is "technology sucks", so I shouldn't be too surprised...)

ANYHOW. Hi Jen! Hi Jill! 43 days and counting till I step foot in Bella Italia. Can't wait for that (first of many) apertivo!

So yeah...our travel plans are a little kooky -- we leave SF on May 22 to go to a wedding in New Orleans, after which I bum around there until May 28 cuz that's when I could get a flight (to Rome) on my BF's FF miles. Not sure right now whether I would come right up to Turin from Rome, or wait for Trevor's conference to finish in Naples -- my Italian friend is extolling the virtues of Naples' Pizzeria Da Michele, so I better at least do that! Have either of you been there?

Now I call the rental agency for our apartment. Wish me luck!

Hey there! Yes, we are arriving in Torino a week apart... wishing you good luck on the apartment! I love your plan, sounds like a lot of fun: So, it looks like at least 4 of us ladies will be in Turin (3 new, BettainTorino, Filomena, myself... plus Jill who is already there). I arrive on June 10th, start work right away, and I think all of you have my cell phone # from private contacts... or else see you on the forum! Never been to Naples, but can you really go wrong with pizza there? hippy

Make that 5 ladies, I've been living in Turin (or rather, just outside of Turin) for the past 10 years. I'm way "over" your age - 46 going on 47, but would love to meet more women who did the same as I did.

Take care,
Anna

Now now, Anna, the older I get, the more I realize age is sooo relative. For one, I've been known to be home on Saturday night calling my parents, who are *not* at home, but rather out partying!

I concur with Jen -- so exciting to see all the responses on this email chain.

And chichi, the apartment we are looking at is on Mercanti Street near piazza Castello, looks like not too far from you!

Oh, and I have another lady to add to our "list" -- our friends Syd and Lily are also moving to Turin late May/early June, and they too are looking at a place in the centro storico.
Many an apertivo will be had! Salute! circle

Just to say hi to all of you...I've just moved into a nice apartment up in San Donato, but very close to Statuto. Can't wait for this GTG in June when we'll all be here! I have to go back to France till end May, and Laurie Feldman is also due back I believe (correct me if necessary) Jenna will be here early June too, so it's developing nicely. We'll need a pretty big table!

Hi ladies, I see my friend BettainTorino has introduced me already (sort of). Please count me in for either lunch or aperitivo, though I'm more interested in aperitivo (w/ little something to drink). Wink My hubby and I are arriving Torino on 5/23. Looking forward to meet everyone. I think we have 6 ladies in the group now. Ciao.

GTG

Hello to all!
I have to say I'm so happy to have found this post. I have to thank Laurie who, through an email, got me interested in taking another look at this site. I'm 29 yr old living in Torino since last Sept-Oct, I used to live in Rome but Torino is growing on me and I have to say I really love it.

I would love to meet with you all--it seems like something is being organized but I'm not really sure when/what it is. Maybe someone can let me know?? My email: amo724@yahoo.com

It seems like a bunch of people are about to move here--what brings you?? I'd be happy to help with providing any helpful info if it could be of use.

I look forward to being in touch!
Jenny

ps--I'm in the process of trying to organize an American Expat meetup here in Torino (first meeting May 7)--anybody interested??

And the list grows -- we are up to having 2 women with the same/similar names! If we get up to 12, probability dictates we'll have at least 2 people with the same birthday too!

JennyW -- our arrival in Italy is set for May 29th, so sounds like I will miss the May 7 meet-up -- I think a fair number of will be around for something in early June though?

What area of town are you in? It seems there's due to be a handful of us near centro storico. (If I can just get the agency to send me the proposta d'affitto!)

Ciao, Beth

If you do it on a weekend, keep me informed as we just had a big GTG this past weekend in Florence and I went down for the day - Milan is even closer to Turin!

I'm glad you are all finding each other. Smiler

This sounds great, we'll definitely have to get together in the beginning of June. I propose we start with a nice aperativo and then organize an afternoon picnic one weekend (both allow for much enjoyment of food and wine, and (hopefully) beautiful weather).

Beth-I'm currently living in the centro storico in via della Consolata/p.zza Savoia. It's great being in the quadrilatero and having the porta palazzo market there. But that being said, I'm thinking about moving a bit south. My job takes me to Vinovo everyday and the commute would be easier--not to mention I would save on rent. But we'll see!

Ciao~ I started this big chain a while ago, and have been so busy I haven't checked to see the replies in a while! So has anyone decided on a date to meet? I know 2 new ones are coming in June, but perhaps those that are here now can meet sooner? For me, tuesday-wed-thursday nights are busy with classes. Does anyone else have any regular scheduling problems? My favorite places for aperitivo are in the quad. romano, l'oblisk/etc. Any suggestions would be great? my personal email is jillmariemadison@hotmail.com if you want to reply directly.

Ohhh I am mildly jealous. Had my plans gone according to plan I would be arriving in northern Italy about now and Torino is pretty high on my list of places to visit.

There are also a couple of us in Genova who want to visit Torino anyway and would love to come when you folks are arranging your GTG. Though for us earlier in the day would likely work best, as I´m not sure how late the trains go back to Genova.

I am now home, live in via Napione, and pretty flexible with time. Aperitivo or lunch sounds great to me. One lunch spot that is sort of fun in nice weather is Cantine Risso, in Piazza Borromini on the east other side of the Regina Margherita bridge. They have a lovely garden and big tables. Also lots of nice places in the quadrilatero in Piazza E. Filiberto.

Ciao! Okay, how about aperitivo at 7pm on Friday May 23rd for those of us in Torino currently.

Please email my private address, jillmariemadison@hotmail.com to confirm. Also say whether you prefer to meet in the Quad. Romano (perhaps l'obelisk), or more in the center- Zelli Wine Bar on Vitt. Emmanuele?

Thanks, and see you all soon!

Ciao Ladies!
My family and I are also moving to the Torino area (Vidracco, close to Ivrea). Our Visa appointment is June 3rd and we're scheduled to be back there around July 15th. We'll be going back and forth for a while longer but plan to be there permanently around October. We'll be living in association with the intentional community of Damanhur. Would love to stay in touch. I'm also mid-40's with a six year old daughter and a retiring husband.

A presto!
Betsy
