My name is Billi, I'm a 22yr old girl coming from Brisbane, Australia! I arrive in Genoa at the beginning of September, would anyone be interested in a GTG? I have never been to Italy and I'm going as an au pair, so I would love anyone who can show me the ins and outs of the place...
So if anyone is interested in meeting up and letting me order them a coffee in my awesome (rusty) Italian, that would be fantastic!
Welcome (in advance). There are a few of us floating around in and near Genoa, but if I'm not mistaken there hasn't been an official GTG yet. Anyone else out there?
The weather is normally pretty nice around September so perhaps we could go to the beach. I would suggest Camogli... but that's just 'cause I'm lazy (it's about 30 minutes on the train from Genoa).
We're not actually in Genoa, but Camogli which is close by. We came down here because it is close enough to Milan to be able to go there for work every now and again, but far enough away to be an enjoyable place to live. I never really thought I would end up living in Italy, but meeting my future wife here changed all that.
I haven't lived in NZ for 10 years now so I feel a bit out of sorts when I go back. Wellington is a nice town, although being a typical Aucklander I hardly ever went there.
I've been a bit slack in organise gtgs with other expats but I am curious to see who else is out there. The only person I've met from here is Carolyn (linaluz) - by the way how are things in Nervi working out? My wife is keen on getting a canoe this summer but not sure how much of a paddle it is to Camogli - have you ever done it? Perhaps we can try meeting halfway?
Well Billi, let us know if you need help with anything. Do you know where you'll be staying in Genoa?
from auckland?? naturally i have a personal vendetta against you, but im willing to put it aside considering you haven't been there in years!
and ill be staying near the american school! i saw it on the map, and im not too far off at all, for all i know ill probably be taking classes there (if there are any).
ok, well theres a few of you, im looking forward to meeting everyone! i guess just give me an exact place and ill find my way there, how is the public transport there?

Hi Breg, nice to hear from you again. My place in Nervi has worked out well - especially the garden which is looking quite lovely right now. Unfortunately I haven´t been able to get out kayaking as much as I wanted, but it sure is nice once you´re out on the water. So far I´ve only made it to Bogliasco, so I think it will be a while till I feel strong enough to get all the way to Camogli. Just the other day I was watching a kayaker set off from the beach in Camogli, and I thought what a wonderful place to kayak from that would be - so I would say definitely get a kayak (or two) this year and perhaps we will meet halfway somewhere.
Ciao. Hope to see you soon.

My name is Michael and I'm spending the summer in Italy. I'm a consultant based in Dubai, UAE, but I will be in Genova until the end of October or so. Interesting city - I haven't explored too much of it since I am based near the airport.
Anyway, I'd love to participate in a GTG. Hope to meet all of you soon!
i officially arrive in genoa on the 4th september! so i guess the plan was to meet up on the 13th or 14th to give me a week or two to recover from jetlag and so i could get my bearings...
Right, so who's up for something on say Tuesday or Wednesday next week? Any ideas apart from coming to Camogli if the weather is good? We could always go to the "Irish Pub" in Quinto in the evening - anyone know it?
Sure!, count me in....Camogli is fine if you like, I don't know that irish pub but I expect Carolyn does. Are we or just I'm meeting Carolyn for coffee tomorrow so I'll pick her brains....
Camogli´s always nice, especially late afternoon, perhaps for apperitivo, preceded by a quick swim. I´ve never been to the Irish pub in Quinto, but am always keen to try somewhere new.
Otherwise, if people wanted to meet in Nervi, apperitivo at the Chandra bar is pretty nice, especially on the rooftop terrace if the weather is good. There is also the Duca Pub here, at the far end of the passegiata, that has the best selection of beer around - and the food is not bad either.
Either Tuesday or Wednesday is fine for me.
Anyone else out there in the Genova area? Billi , are you in town?
Ciao,
Carolyn

I e-mailed Michael (who posted above) and he said he's free on Tuesday. I would suggest two alternatives (depending on the weather, seeing as the rainy season seems to have started): Camogli if fine, a pub somewhere if not.
So, I wonder what happened to Billi? Perhaps her plans changed.
Do you know if Michael has any time constraints? As in does he work till a specific hour?
Otherwise we could plan to meet around apperitivo hour (6 or 6:30sh) or a bit earlier (4:30 or 5:00) if the weather is nice and anyone wanted to go for a swim. I always like to have a bit of a swim when I go to Camogli.
