There seems to be no takers for a Siena GTG, so how about those of you in the south? I'll be in Amalfi between July 19 - Aug 2, surely we could come up with something during that time?

We'll have family in from the States then, but I might be able to escape (it's hubby's relatives) for awhile.

I'm all for a GTG in the south. I am planning a trip to the Amalfi coast for a few days and will schedule it once there is some type of plan. I can be there anytime over your two weeks.

Where are you staying?

Annika,
I would make every effort to get to a GTG in the South. In July we would need to have it on the beach! That would be very southern of us!! Cool

Yay! party01 This could really happen!

Giovanna, we're staying in a vacation rental in central Amalfi. We don't necessarily have to have it in Amalfi though, any place that's relatively easy to get to (child-friendly would be a plus too) would work for me Smiler I guess it would depend on how many that are interested.

cowdance Oh I can't wait!!! I will be driving over to the coast so location of the actual GTG won't be an issue for me...But the beach would be an ideal location. circle

Here's what Nicki had to say:
quote:
Lets see how many people are really interested and where they would be willing to travel to. It would be nice to do it on a beach, and there are plenty of cheaper beaches around, but would others be willing to get to the Amalfi Coast? I can imagine that for a lot it would be more convenient to go to Naples or Salerno, but it would'nt be so much fun!

Who else is in the south? Delina is right there in Naples... then there's Michelle and Cherrye in Catanzaro which is... holy crap, that's almost as far from Naples as Florence is. Then again, so is Brindisi and Jeffo already said he would come, right? smileypulldownsunglasses So the more I think about it, the less excuse anyone has not to come. Everybody in Rome, Tuscany, Umbria, wherever - come on down! idea!

I'm not sure what we're actually going to do though. Let's say that we have a beach GTG.... then what?

I'm really not good at organizing things like this. hidesbehindsofa

I'm in Molise and the drive is not that bad going to the Amalfi Coast. I am more than willing to help plan with you Annika but I need an idea of a date so that I can arrange my trip. I am going to make it a 4 or 5 day stay and I do have a car so I could stay in a location different than the actual GTG location.

Tell me what you think. I need to make a reservation soon but don't want to choose dates that don't include the day of the potential GTG.

Ok, should we make it on a weekend or a week day? If weekend, let's say..... how about Saturday July 26?

The Saturday before that is when I get to Amalfi and the Saturday after is when I leave, so those are out.

I say a Saturday or Sunday is the best option. This will give those who work the chance to join the fun without having to stress about time and schedules. And now that I'm thinking about it, Saturday afternoon might be best...people won't have to rushing their Sunday afternoon to make it home and get ready for the Monday work schedule. Of course I am assuming people work Mon - Fri like they do in America.

So now that you've experienced being a passenger on my 'crazy train of thoughts', I guess I'm saying Saturday the 26th would be perfect. stupid_1

I'd love to do it, but hubby's family is planning to take the train to Rome that weekend for their last few days and hubby wants us all to go. I'm pretty bummed myself because I'd love to meet some of the people I keep "seeing" on this site. I'm in the Pozzuoli area on the other side of Naples from Amalfi. Frowner

We are coming to Naples on June 23rd and leaving on July 10th. As usual I picked bad dates. I hope those that get together have a great time.

Gil, you could always prolong your stay Wink

Holly, that's too bad. Would it be easier for you earlier that week? AFAIK none of us who will be there have any fixed work hours so I think we're quite flexible.

That Saturday should be fine for me. I would recommend that it be somewhere a little off the beaten path as Amalfi is likely to be full of tourists in July. Imagine that!! Tourists!!

A despicable species, or so I've heard.

... or.... scared

... but no, I'm not a tourist, I'm merely a visitor, a self-declared adoptive daughter of Amalfi. The rest of you, you live in Italy already so you're not technically tourists either, right? Roll Eyes

Anyway, this is why it's so good that Nicki lives in Positano and knows about all those hidden beaches that the ugly tourists never get to. Wink

I am all for an off the beaten path beach...after all, we are an off the beaten path kind of group...aren't we?

Oh, I think we should post this GTG under another heading as well to grab some more attention.

That is too long for us to be away for too numerous reasons to list here. Therefore, I will also miss all of you.

Dora and I have decided to pop over for a week and we'll be there at the time of the GTG, so.... Looks like we can make it... but Dora is really concerned about the traffic getting in and out of Amalfi on a saturday. We'll find a way, though!
