While back in the US I purchased a new laptop as my old one was getting too old, slow and unreliable. The new machine has Windows Vista; unable to find XP in the time I had to look.

We have Alice W-Gate for phone, TV and ADSL and the software loaded fine on the XP: I connect to wireless then connect to internet via Alice. With the Vista I can't get the portion with the "Alice ADSL Password" box to load from the cd, system shuts down when I do that.

I have looked on the Alice site but not sure where the download I need might be hidden. Has anyone hooked up wireless with Alice W-Gate on a Windows Vista machine and is there something I am missing?

I use Vista on our Dell laptops and I have run into a couple problems getting some Italian S/W to work on it. You will need to contact Alice and request a version compatible with Vista. It may be in beta release by now. For whatever reason, there has been a delay by some companies in making some Italian/European S/W compatible with Vista.

I have Alice wireless and but with XP. However, I didn't have any software to load onto my computer, just the passwords from the card you slot into the wireless box. Have you tried configuring manually?

I was able to figure it out using the Alice site (google search for "alice w-gate vista" took me to the instructions I needed.

Alice says with Vista NOT to use their software, everything is done in the Vista program. This took me about 10 minutes to make the changes and get on line. Much easier than the Alice program load with XP.

Like I said I didn't load any software either with XP, so not sure what happened there! Glad you sorted it out anyway - it is pretty simple once you know how isn't it?

Funny story about my Alice Wireless - they managed to cut off my broadband when they brought me the wireless box and tv package, so they sent out engineers to restore my service, which they did but only via ethernet. The engineer was here two hours and didn't get me connected via wireless - he left saying he would return and set up Alice TV at the same time - well it was just before August 15th so we never saw him again. I got sick of not having wireless so decided to tackle it myself - like you ten minutes and one WEP key later, I was wireless!! Maybe I should apply for a job...
