Is there any reason why a mobile phone bought in Italy would have problems in England - with an English pay as you go sim in it?

I'm thinking of getting a phone as a gift for someone in England you see, but I want to buy it here.

The only thing I can think of it the charger, but we can get around this easily. Will the instructions be in English?

Hi Delina. I don't think you would have any problems with it working in the UK unless it is locked on a network in Italy, then you just get it unlocked which is easy for most phones. We use our UK mobiles in Capri with a Tim sim but I had to have them unlocked to do that. As for instructions, I suppose it depends on the brand of phone but we had to buy a cheapie phone when we were over in Capri and it only came with Italian instructions but if it is Sony/Samsung etc, instructions can be found online from their websites.

Welcome back RS.
I'll be getting an unlocked one - not locked to any network here - so I'm hoping that will be ok.
I'm looking for a basic Nokia.

Thanks Delina. How were your few days away, hope you didn't get that massive thunderstorm that I had in my first few days in Capri, rain for 3 hours solid and typical I had a washing out! That was the last rain I seen though. How do you cope with that humidity in Naples, it was horrendous wasn't it? I got back to Glasgow last night and it has not stopped raining, I wish I was in Capri again, my tan's fading already!

No ! From personal experience, can tell you Nokia instructions are in Italian. (But if you can figure them out, you can change the phone's on-screen language for texts etc from Italian to English).
