The swap is going to be at Pat Smith's medieval home in the village of Otricoli. It's nearest (fast) train is Orte (30 minutes from Termini), ten minutes driving from the Magliano Sabina exit off the A1. We'll be able to organize lifts from Orte and from the local (slow) station at Civita Castellana/Magliano Sabina.

We'd love to have everyone bring books and DVDs they'd be willing to swap, in English and other languages. If the weather's nice, the ruins of the Roman town along the Tiber are spectacular and a healthy walk.

This is a great idea! I am going to try and make it, even though I'm coming from about 90 minutes southeast of termini...

Any suggestions as to which train we should try and catch to make organizing the lifts from the station easier? I see a few take 30 minutes and others over an hour. Can I use my BIRG ticket from Frosinone? Probably not! Can I buy a ticket in Frosinone all the way to Orte, switching at termini, or do I need to buy two separate tickets?

Definitely take one of the 35 minute trains. You should easily be able to get a ticket all the way through - they're based on distance travelled but if you're in Zone C on your BIRG the trip may be covered - best to ask at the station. Closer to the date I'll post some train times here so we can minimize number of pickups from Orte, but assume we'll aim to start late morning/lunchtime with the swap. It will be good to see you again!

Allison--any update on what train you think it would be best to take? Anyone else taking the train?

I'll be collecting people from Orte at 10:30, so any train that will get you there in time for that will work. Feel free to get there early - I'll be early too. Trains are very frequent from Termini, but I have not looked on the trenitalia site to pinpoint them. You could do so to find a train that works with yours in from Veroli.

Thanks Alison for posting (and Pat for hosting). I had a great time, met some great people, ate well...oh, and came home with a big bag of books! Be sure to keep us posted about the next one.
